Proposal
Weaving in Wallsend focuses on the regeneration of the Forum Shopping Centre in Wallsend, Newcastle upon Tyne, reimagining it as an urban commons rooted in community, culture, and shared ownership. Working within a site traditionally defined by consumption, the project transforms the Forum into a civic space that supports community-oriented facilities and promotes practices of commoning, encouraging the sharing of both tangible and intangible resources.
Recognizing the Forum as an important place of everyday ritual and routine, the design reframes the shopping centre as a networked environment of exchange, collaboration, and social life. Through sustainable and resourceful adaptation, the project explores how existing commercial architecture can evolve into a resilient civic infrastructure, reinforcing collective identity while fostering new forms of public engagement.
